Yes! The Midwife is set to return to BBC One for its eighth series. Call the Midwife is back on BBC1 for an eighth series in 2019 – and a number of exciting new faces are set to join Nonnatus House.

Season eight will pick up with the women of Nonnatus House still feeling the impact of Nurse Barbara Hereward’s shock death, which devastated fans in series seven.
“The spirit of Barbara continues throughout the series through all of us. In a way the loss of somebody like that breathes new life into the thing as a whole because everybody realises that they need to seize the moment and take her spirit and warm, loving energy throughout the series.”
We know that Charlotte Ritchie, who played Nurse Barbara, won’t be back for season eight after her character passed away towards the end of season seven.

Most of the much-loved cast are expected to be returning for series 8 of Call the Midwife.
Helen George is set to continue her role as midwife Trixie Franklin along with Linda Bassett as Phyllis Crane and Jennifer Kirby as Valerie Dyer.
Newcomer this season Leonie Elliott is set to be reprising her role as Lucille Anderson going forward.
Sadly, Charlotte Ritchie will not be returning as Barbara Hereford following the tragic death in episode seven.
It takes 120 days over a six-month period to film a complete series of Call the Midwife. Over that time, the show’s caterers serve around 30,000 meals to cast and crew.
The show always starts filming in April, so by the time it comes to the Christmas special — which usually features snow — it’s boiling hot outside. Laura Main and Stephen McGann (who play Shelagh and Patrick Turner) regularly appear on set in big coats with bathing costumes worn underneath.
When temperatures soar, Helen George, who plays Trixie, hires an ice cream van to serve the cast and crew frozen treats.
The midwives made an emotional exit at the end of the last series. There was a tear-jerking series finale, filled with wonderful clips of colleagues past and present and a celebration of Sister Monica Joan.
Series seven’s final episode left us with lots of questions about what’s next for our favourite nurses and their friends.
